Australia 10 Year Government Bond Yield increased to a 10-week high of 3.764%, after the RBA on Tuesday raised its cash rate 50 basis points to a seven-year top of 2.35% while leaving the door open for more tightening as policymakers continue their fight against surging prices. The board said that it was seeking to bring inflation down to the 2–3% range, adding that it is committed to doing what is necessary to ensure prices return to target while paying attention to any sign of deterioration in global economic growth due to monetary tightening in many countries, the war in Ukraine, and the COVID containment measures and other policy challenges in China. Turning to fresh data, the Australian economy grew 0.9% qoq in Q1 of 2022, slightly less than market forecasts of 1.0%, and after a downwardly revised 0.7% rise in Q1, as higher interest rates offset strong household spending.
